What is the Tayside MS Therapy Centre?

A self-help, self-funding group of people affected by Multiple Sclerosis who are dedicated to improving life with MS. The Centre has been in existence in Peddie Street, Dundee since 1982 and operates six days a week. People affected by MS and many with other conditions attend the Centre for Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment and other therapies.

How It All Began

In 1982 a small group of patients and carers in Dundee formed a group to use Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment under the umbrella of ARMS - Action and Research for Multiple Sclerosis. ARMS was a small charity set up in London in 1974 which folded in 1991. Now there are 64 Therapy Centres established in the UK and Ireland based on the pioneering work in Dundee.

Today's Mission

HBOT remains at the centre of an extensive array of therapies available in the Tayside MS Therapy Centre. There is great pride taken in the fact that members are offered local access to a wide choice of support, allowing them the opportunity to manage their symptoms. This choice is very important as MS and its effects vary widely from person to person.

The self-help options available at the Tayside MS Therapy Centre are complimented by input from professionals with informed advice on the benefits possible from each option. The success of this holistic approach is shown by the fact that since opening in 1982 the membership of Tayside MS Therapy Centre continues to increase resulting in the need to extend the premises in 2000.
